SendOutCards and a Headmaster
Sent in by: Alison L. Bentley
Eric Tomlins, the headmaster of a private school, recently passed away after his struggle with Lou Gehrig’s disease at age 57. He was my daughter Heather’s teacher for 5 years and played an important role in her life as a father figure. Over the years, she meant to pick up the phone and keep in touch with Eric but got busy and figured she would see him some other time.
When she learned that he had passed away it was very hard for Heather to cope knowing she didn’t get the chance to tell him how much she loved him. I had sent Eric a few cards over the years and suggested we look at my contact manger on the SOC website to see the cards. In those cards I had shared with Eric details about Heather’s life and said that he was “always in her heart if not in her busy schedule” and that “she still adored him.” There was a huge realization that the words she regretted not saying to him actually had been said through those greetings cards. She felt so much better and was finally able to sleep at night. SOC is very, very real. Thank you.
SendYourLove update-
Noah Biorkman, the 5-year-old boy with cancer, passed away last week. We want to thank everyone who sent him a card and helped him celebrate an early Christmas.
